Krzysztof Kaperczak, Barbara Rymsza: Pedestrian crossings and the disabled – a problem with curbstones. “Drogownictwo”, vol. LXXVI, No. 2, 2021, pp. 35–40

The paper is devoted to the problem of ensuring accessibility of pedestrian crossings for disabled people in the aspect of curbs. The authors list several types of curbstones used in Poland and neighboring countries, describe their usefulness in relation to the movement of people in wheelchairs.

Michał Sarnowski, Karol J. Kowalski, Jan Król: Design and testing asphalt mixtures for low noise asphalt pavements. “Drogownictwo”, vol. LXXVI, No. 2, 2021, pp. 41–48

In Polish climate conditions asphalt layer constructed with BBTM according to traditional practices may not be sufficiently resistant for the weather action. Modified, new asphalt mixtures BBTM, resistant for the middle-east European climate should have semi-open structure (closer to tight structure, though) durable for the water and freeze-thaw action and also should demonstrate improved acoustical properties as compared to the standard mixtures.

Material selection and mixture design for noise-reducing pavements (BBTM and PA) are discussed in this paper. A newly developed BBTM 8 according to WUT idea has a closer internal structure as compared to BBTM according to WT-2. Beneficial properties of this new BBTM 8 mixture were confirmed based on the road tests.

Józef RABIEGA, Piotr OLCZYK: Renovation of historical Tumski bridge in Wrocław. “Drogownictwo”, vol. LXXVI, No. 2, 2021, pp. 49–52

The historical Tumski bridge in Wrocław (in its current steel form) was opened in 1889 and it connects Ostrów Tumski and Wyspa Piasek. The recently completed renovation of the bridge (2019–2020) included repair of supports, corrosion protection of the steel structure, replacement of road pavement and sidewalks, and required removal of the “love padlocks” hanging on the bridge – their total weight was 17 tons, several times more than estimated.
