Marek Danowski: Maintenance of concrete slabs in Saxony-Anhalt Germany. „Drogownictwo”, vol. LXXIII, No. 9, 2018, pp. 267–275

Road administration of German state of Saxony-Anhalt maintains 474 km of motorways, 75% of which are concrete. After a period of intensive expansion of road network, maintenance is now the main task of road administration. After many years. There were problems with durability of concrete pavement of the sections adjacent to asphalt pavement, pavement made with alternative cement and also with repairs due to quite common occurrence of the phenomenon of alkaline reaction with silicic acid (AKR reactions), which led to damage of the pavement. German experience can be used for construction of concrete pavement in Poland.

Małgorzata Wutke: Characteristic of geo-radar technology and possible directions for its improviement. „Drogownictwo”, vol. LXXIII, No. 9, 2018, pp. 276–280

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology is widely used for imaging the subsurface areas, including road structures. It is a non-destructive method that uses electromagnetic waves to detect signals reflected from sub-surface constructions. GPR transmits electromagnetic waves to the ground, and when these hit a buried object or boundary of materials with different dielectric parameters, the receiving antenna registers changes in the reflected signal. It is important to have a basic knowledge related to the operation of GPR, because its capabilities, but also limitations are directly correlated with science. The article describes GPR technology with particular attention to the limitations of the methodology. It describes the possibilities of increasing the GPR efficiency and new areas of applications.

Efficient and rational management of resources, specially including water, is the basis for sustainable development. These issues are particularly important on the modern cities areas. The article presents the analysis of water-permeable surfaces and the possibilities of their use as elements of urban infrastructure in order to reduce the surface runoff, improve the site conditions of plants and trees, and improve the quality of life of urban residents. The use of permeable water surface has been analyzed in terms of applying it as one of the good practices of sustainable urban development.

Jakub Salach, Piotr Walas: Intelligent vision control system at traffic lights on intersection. „Drogownictwo”, vol. LXXIII, No. 9, 2018, pp. 288–293

The main issue presented in this article is creating a vision system, which duty will be to control traffic lights taking into account the traffic flow, types of vehicles and their velocity. The main conception is to have influence on the flexible change of the duration of each signaling phase. It will be proved, on the basis of the measurements, that continuous analysis of the junction through vision system can have better impact on its functioning than analysis through inductive-loop traffic detectors (passing or arriving). The detection methods is compared considering reliability of operation and the impact on the control.
